Many factors can cause infertility.
For women, infertility can be caused by:
- Diminished ovarian reserve due to aging
- Endometriosis
- Uterine fibroids
- Ovarian cysts and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

For men, infertility can be caused by:
- Testicular blockages
- Enlarged testicular veins (varicoceles)
- Testicular trauma
- Cancer
- Hormonal and genetic disorders
- Medical conditions, such as diabetes and cystic fibrosis
- Unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as drug and alcohol abuse

Causes of infertility can be the following:
- 1/3 are due to female problems
- 1/3 are due to male problems
- 1/3 are due to unknown causes or a mixture of male and female problems
Very common! Around 12% of American women between the ages of 15 - 44 have trouble getting pregnant or carrying a pregnancy to term.
Women under 35: see a fertility specialist if you have unsuccessfully tried to get pregnant for 1 year
Women 35 and older: see a fertility specialist if you have unsucessfully tried to get pregnant for 6 months
Additionally, visit a fertility doctor if you’ve had at least two miscarriages.
